Hubby and I were talking today, and it occurred to the both of us that this will be the first Black Friday since I started working so many years ago that I’ve NOT had to work on the day.

Everywhere on line recently I’ve been reading peoples discussions on where they will be going on Black Friday, and how they are going to be up at 4am waiting in line at such a place or another.

My boss has joked that I planned my pregnancy to be out at this time of year.  I didn’t really, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was happy it worked out this way.

Sleep deprived shoppers are even ruder than usual, and this year I don’t have to fight the urge to say, “Don’t take it out on me honey, you’re here because you WANT to be, I’m here because I’ll get fired if I’m not.”

I fear the rage of those who get there after we run out of stock.

I also fear getting trampled to death like that poor Wal-mart worker in Long Island who died after being trampled in a Black Friday stampede last year.  Really people, no sale is worth killing someone to get to.

This year I wont be biting my tounge while listening to cranky moms scream at their exhausted children who have been forced from their warm beds in the small hours of the morning, (“NO!” I remember one mom screaming at her child who had asked for a $1 container of silly putty “I TOLD you not everything is about YOU today so SHUT UP.”  I felt sorry for the tyke who, at 6 in the morning, should have by all rights still been in bed.

Nope, this year I’ll be secure in my own home, watching tv, playing online, bonding with my new baby boy and eating leftover turkey.  I don’t plan to leave the house at all that day, and will enjoy every second of it.
