RIP Spunky
Sadly, Spunky (which is what my hubby had started calling the Rescue Rat) didn’t survive the night.

As you can see we did our very best to make her comfortable and aid healing. We had HOPED she would be able to be re-released but prepared to care for her long term. We had mentioned taking her to the vet (even though we don’t really like the ONE vet in this city who will see rats).
I replaced the aspen bedding I usualy use with a soft towel, put her food on the floor close to her, as well as a container lid for a low water source. I gave her a place to hide since she IS a wild rat and probably not happy about being in the open.
When I got home from work last night she looked up at me. I gave her fresh water and a small bit of sweet yellow cake to encourage her to eat. She ate a bit of the cake, drank A LOT of the water, then curled up in a ball in her box and went to sleep.
I check in on her again between 1 and 1:30 this morning and she was no longer with us.

That is sad she died. At least you gave her a nice, warm, safe place to pass away. Being an absolute animal lover I can not tell you how impressed I am with what you did for a wild rat. I love it!!

That is so sad the litte rat died. My Mum likes rats she says they are cute and don’t have more than four legs (things with more than four legs are gross) so she likes them. I’d kinda want to chase them…

Sorry to hear the little guy passed away. I know you did the best you could for him. I am sure he appreciated that.
